New transformation & change comms roles

Why focus on internal comms roles?

They are tough to find. These roles can be tough to find in the wild, even in the many helpful comms job newsletters.

They have many names. Even if a role is 100% focused on internal comms, in some cases, you wouldn’t know it from the title. And it’s sometimes is a little buried in the description, too.

They are critical roles at a critical time. Almost every company looks to comms as organizations adapt the face of external disruption (e.g., new tech, competitors, market pressures) and manages multiple, concurrent transformation/change programs. Plus, post-pandemic employee expectations and needs continue to evolve.

New insights

  • 85% of emails are read in under 15 seconds, according to Microsoft’s 2024 Work Trend Index. 🤔 That doesn’t seem right to me…but the report seems to have a solid underlying data set and it has lots of good nuggets on how knowledge workers use AI and consume information.

  • 84% of internal communicators expect demand for internal comms to increase in months ahead, says the VMA Group in their 2024 Inside Insight report. Lots of good stuff in this one, including some interesting notes comparing today’s trends vs. those in 2006, when VMA launched this annual report.
