Strictly Internal | Issue #23

55+ new internal comms jobs at Apple, HSBC, NBCUniversal, and OpenAI. Plus: Boundaries vs. flexibility

Welcome to Strictly Internal #23! Today, we have 55+ new internal and change comms from a stellar list of companies in the US, UK and Canada.

Only four remote roles today (down from last week’s record 14), although this week there are several project manager roles that are worth checking out, and several roles focused on finance functions/CFOs that are interesting. Standout companies in tech, insurance and healthcare sectors populate the list.

In Insights, new research on balancing employee boundaries and flexibility, plus research from the world of PR that I am “thrilled” to share with you (you’ll have to scroll down to see why thrilled is in quotes…).

Last call! Got a great response to last week’s practical use of AI poll, and there’s still time to weigh in before the singularity makes the question irrelevant. Thank you!

Here we go…

New transformation & change comms roles

New insights

  • “Leaders face a workforce flexibility paradox: People require both flexibility and boundaries,” say the authors of this report in the MIT Sloan Management Review, which offers interesting new research on the erosion of workplace boundaries and some strategies to preserve them. For internal comms, this comes up sometimes when scheduling email sends and the like….although some suggest that sending email on typical off hours is an advantage. Send times in global organizations are even more complex…every situation is different, but I like evaluating the merits of an off-hours communication through the lens of boundaries.

  • From the world of media relations, PR Newswire says there’s been a 156% increase in the use of the word “thrilled” in press releases since 2017, among other measures of runaway hyperbole inflation. You see this in internal comms, too, where the good fight for clear language takes on extra importance (although perhaps hyperbole is better than jargon).

  • Be sure to check out the next #CommsJobs hangout on October 15 at 8:30 p.m. ET. This one commemorates Hispanic Heritage Month and features a great lineup of speakers. Check it out! Details here.
